2018 Dragstrip Riot

The Southern Slingshots rolled into the Riot ready rumble and have some fun. This was the second year of the Riot, and by all accounts, this was easily twice the size of the 2017 show. The Southern Slingshots sponsored the Nostalgia Eliminator trophy and showed up with 7 cars.

This was an event that had a little of everything including a car show, nostalgia racing classes and test and tune runs all day. Seemed a lot of cars were just interested in the test and tune runs, as the Nostalgia Eliminator racing class had about 11 entries.

As time trials came to a close, four cars were out of competition. DiBattisto, Meeks and Bramande all were out with engine issues, and Seager was out having some new car blues with his "5 year old new car" as he puts it...LOL. As the class was called to the lanes, Wade Nunnelly, Ken Hamilton , Harley McDaniel, The Burnett Brothers and a 5th FED ended up running for the money in the NE category.

In Round 1, Hamilton's SBC powered FED edged out his competitor to take the win. McDaniels SBC powered FED raced the yellow big block injected FED of the Burnette Brothers and took the round with a hole shot. Nunnelly's injected big block altered was the fastest NE qualifier running a stout 7.80 on a hot day and crappy air and made it to second round with a bye.

Round 2 had Nunnelly's altered and Hamilton's FED paired up with Nunnelly edging out Hamilton and going on to the finals. McDaniels FED moved on as well with a bye.

In the NE Finals, McDaniels gave the SBC powered FED all it had but it just wasn't enough to beat Nunnelly's injected big block which was quick and reliable all day long.

Congratulations to Wade "Big Money" Nunnelly and the "RETRO ROCKT" team for taking home the Nostalgia Eliminator win at the 2018 Dragstrip Riot!!!

Thanks goes out to Bill Hartzell for promoting the event and Orlando Speed World Dragway and crew for providing a good safe racing surface during the hot conditions.

Also Thanks to Scott Hamilton for taking a lot of the great pics you'll be seeing from the Riot.
