By all accounts, the 37th Citrus Nationals was a great success, and the Southern Slingshots were proud to be a part of it. Great weather greeted a huge crowd of enthusiastic spectators that were treated to some great drag racing. There were six Southern Slingshots teams in attendance and our task was to kick off the Pro Show sessions with a bang. We paired up based on having close races and it worked perfectly. The track wanted us to run 1/8 mile like everything else, so we obliged. Ken Hamilton started things off with a win over Gordie DiBattisto Jr 6.28@108.80 to 6.45@105.71 in a battle of sbc FED's. Next, Harley McDaniel's sbc FED ran a 5.51@125.49 to take out Mike Johnstone's bbc F/C at 5.65@120.54. Then Wade Nunnelly's bbc altered took a holeshot win over Jeff Burnett's bbc FED 5.07@134.69 to 5.05@134.74. The second round began with DiBattisto Jr besting Hamilton 6.50@104.48 to 6.54@107.34 when Ken got a little sideways after the launch. McDaniel threw away a 5.45@128.27 when he redlit against Johnstone who ran another 5.65. It took another holeshot to win the final race between Nunnelly and Burnett. This time Burnett got the jump and won with a 5.06@137.00 to Nunnelly's 5.05@134.98 in a super close one! The fans were great with a lot of people stopping by to say that they loved our cars. We enjoyed interacting with them and everyone had a blast!! We are looking forward to a fantastic 2019....so stayed tuned!!
