Rules and Regulations

DRIVER, CAR AND SAFETY EQUIPMENT REGULATIONS

SOUTHERN SLINGSHOTS WILL USE ALL DRIVER, CAR AND SAFETY EQUIPMENT REGULATIONS FOUND IN THE 4A, 4B AND GENERAL SECTIONS OF THE NHRA RULEBOOK FOR THE SPEED/CLASS YOU RUN. The IHRA typically mirrors the NHRA as far as regulations, so if you adhere to the NHRA rules, you should have no problems running at any participating track.

IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE DRIVER AND CAR OWNER TO INSURE NHRA OR IHRA SAFETY REGULATIONS AND STANDARDS ARE MET. THE PARTICIPATING TRACK IS THE FINAL WORD ON REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO PASS TECH INSPECTION.

Appearance Regulations

Image

FEDs, comp coupes and altereds should make every effort to represent a nostalgic appearance of a 1960’s to early 1970’s. Please limit the use of billet components. The Coordinators are the final word in the acceptable appearance of your car.

  • ALTERED BODIES: Altered bodies must be based on popular 1960's, early 1970’s racing styled types and maintain that basic main body. Fiberglass acceptable. Rear fenders, hoods, trunk lids, and tops are optional.
  • FUNNYCAR BODIES: Bodies will be 1979 or earlier.
  • WINGS AND SPOILERS: Permitted but should be period correct if possible.
  • ENGINE: Must resemble the make/model of 1960’s to early 1970’s FEDs, altered and funnycars.

  • INDUCTION SYSTEM: Must be blown or injected. Coordinator approval needed for carburetors.
  • FUEL: Gas, alcohol or nitromethane permitted. Members will notify coordinator if they plan on running nitro, but the TRACK has the final decision.
  • EXHAUST: Must have zoomies, weed burner or straight pipe headers.
  • NITROUS OXIDE: Prohibited
  • ELECTRONICS: Driver functions must be accomplished by driver, not by electronics.
Exceptions: Direct wired (i.e. button on steering wheel) trans brake permitted. RPM

  • SUPERCHARGER: 6-71 or 8-71 standard mount size blower, any overdrive. Restraints/belt guard/burst panel required per IHRA or NHRA regulations for class/speed you race in.
  • TRANSMISSION: Any type permitted. All case, shields and blankets required per IHRA or NHRA regulations for the speed/class you race in.
  • MOTOR DIAPER: MANDITORY for all Southern Slingshots cars. A NON-SFI diaper is acceptable if IHRA/NHRA does not require one.
  • PARACHUTE: Required on all cars running 150 mph or faster in the ¼ mile. All RACE and FUNNYCAR members will deploy chutes on all ¼ mi runs (its all about the show….). Chute deployment at 1/8 mile tracks will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
  • PIT RUNNING: All race cars will have a person in the car when running. All Blown cars or cars with a clutch system will be up on a car stand (not jacks stands) and have a person in the car when it is running.

Conduct Regulations

Conduct

Southern Slingshots is a family based organization. We ask that every participant conduct himself or herself in an appropriate manner. Abusive and/or violent behavior toward any participant, spectator, or official WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. Violation of the conduct policy will be grounds for MEMBERSHIP TERMINATION and immediate ejection from the event.

Southern Slingshots members and their teams should look and act in a way that best represents the Slingshots and the contracted event. Members/teams are required to wear matching uniforms (at a minimum matching T-Shirts) and should make all efforts to interact with fans (autographs, hero cards, handouts, car information displays). Remember, tracks/promoters are only paying us because we bring paying spectators and fans to their events. The better the spectator experience is for paying customers, the better our opportunities are for future growth and participation.

Promotions

Southern Slingshots retains the right to use any photos or video obtained at Southern Slingshots events.

Final Word

In the event of ANY discrepancy, after thorough review and consideration, the decision made by the on site division coordinator will be considered final.
